Master the strategies for all four language skills. Review guides, tips, and practice materials before taking the tests.
Listening
Key Strategies:
- • Predict Answers: Use the 30-second prep time to guess word types (noun, verb, number) for gap-fills.
- • Signpost Words: Listen for "However", "Finally", "In contrast" to track the speaker's flow.
- • Distractors: Be careful of answers that sound correct but are corrected later by the speaker.
Reading
Key Strategies:
- • Skimming: Read the title and first sentence of each paragraph to get the main idea quickly.
- • Scanning: Look for specific keywords (names, dates) when answering detailed questions.
- • Synonyms: The text rarely uses the exact words as the question; look for synonyms.
Writing
Task 1 & 2 Tips:
- • Task 1: Include an overview sentence summarizing the main trends. Don't give opinions.
- • Task 2: Structure your essay clearly: Introduction, 2 Body Paragraphs, Conclusion.
- • Vocabulary: Use collocations and less common lexical items accurately.
Speaking
Fluency & Coherence:
- • Expand Answers: Never answer with just "Yes" or "No". Always add "because..." or an example.
- • Fillers: Use natural fillers like "Well," "Actually," "To be honest" instead of "umm".
- • Part 2: Use the 1-minute prep time to write down keywords, not full sentences.
